How To Get Involved in the Dental Hygiene Community

Dental Hygienist

Whether you’re just starting your dental hygiene career or you’ve been in the industry for years, getting involved in the dental community can open doors to professional growth, advocacy, and networking opportunities. From local events to national organizations, there are now more ways than ever to connect with the dental community and help shape the industry.

1. Join Your State Dental Hygienist Association

Joining your state dental hygiene association is one of the best starting points for getting involved in the community. These associations typically offer continuing education courses, advocacy for legislation, networking events, and leadership opportunities.

Here are a few state-specific associations to explore:

2. Get Involved with National Organizations

Going outside of the state level, the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) is the voice of hygienists nationwide. The ADHA advocates for professionals, gives tools for career advancement, and more. With the ADHA, you can attend conferences, join councils, and even help shape legislation.

3. Attend Dental Conferences

There are many regional and national conferences that you can attend as a dental professional. Some of the biggest conferences include SmileCon, Greater New York Dental Meeting, and RDH Under One Roof. State associations typically host these conferences, so be sure to check their website regularly.

4. Volunteer in the Community

Local clinics and nonprofits are eager for experienced dental professionals to lend a hand. Volunteering not only helps bridge gaps in care, but it also connects you with like-minded people and keeps your skills sharp.

5. Use GoTu to Stay Connected

GoTu helps dental professionals find work that fits their life and helps you stay connected to a broader community of professionals doing the same. Whether you’re picking up shifts across your state or temping at your select favorite offices, GoTu makes it easy.

Getting involved in the community doesn’t have to be a big commitment; even small steps can make a lasting impact on your career.
